Type for printing music was acquired by the Zagreb printer Antun Reiner in the 1750s and by the Osijek printer Ivan Martin Divald in the 1770s. Each monastery trained its own to compose Masses for one or two voices with organ accompaniment and other simple liturgical pieces. Beginning in the middle of the 18th c., the Franciscans, the most influential monastic order in Croatia, established their own musical style.
By the first decades of the 19th c., however, large-scale music productions were organized in important cathedrals.
